Jasprit Bumrah was nominated alongside Travis Head of Australia, and England's Joe Root and Harry Brook for the prestigious ICC award.

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has added another feather to his cap in his international career. Bumrah has been honoured with the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 on Monday, January 28. 

The individual ICC award was given to the best player based on their performances throughout the year across all formats of the game. Jasprit Bumrah was nominated alongside Travis Head of Australia, and England's Joe Root and Harry Brook for the prestigious ICC award. 

However, Bumrah has managed to beat the remaining three nominees in order to win Sir Garfield Sobers award for the Men’s Cricketer of the Year Award. With this, pacer became the fourth Indian player after Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin to win the prestigious individual ICC award. 

The ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award is a double delight for Jasprit Bumrah as he won the Test Cricketer of the Year award on Monday, January 27. The 31-year-old had an incredible 2024, where he was the highest run-getter across all formats of the game, with 86 scalps, including 5 fifers and 4 four-wicket hauls, at an average of 13.76 and an economy rate of 3.06 in 21 matches. 

Jasprit Bumrah’s had an incredible 2024, where he started off with a Test series against England before switching to T20Is by playing in the T20 World Cup 2024. He picked 15 wickets while playing a crucial role in helping India clinch the coveted title after 17 years. He was also adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his brilliant bowling performance. Bumrah was a stand out bowler in Tests in 2024, picking 71 wickets in 13 matches.

Speaking on winning the Sir Garfield Sober Trophy, Jasprit Bumrah expressed his delight on winning the prestigious award, adding that winning the T20 World Cup will always remain close to his heart. 

“I am really happy to be winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Men's Cricketer of the Year award. Last year was really memorable, especially winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados. It will always be close to my heart." Bumrah said in the statement released by the ICC. 

“When I was a youngster, I saw many of my heroes winning this ICC award. I am very happy to be on the receiving end," he added. 

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is currently recovering from his back injury which he sustained during the Sydney Test and has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against England. However, the BCCI selectors and Team India management are hoping that premier pacer recovers in time for the Champions Trophy 2025, slated to take from February 19 to March 9.
