synopsis
Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Gujarat, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have announced additional cuts.
Hours after the Centre announced the slashing of excise duty on petrol prices by Rs 5 and on diesel by Rs 10, at least nine Bharatiya Janata Party ruled states have followed suit and announced additional cuts in prices of petrol and diesel. The decision comes as a major relief for the common man who had been facing the heat of near-daily upward revision of fuel prices. The price cuts come into effect from Thursday.
The nine states that have rolled out additional price cuts include Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Gujarat, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. While Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Goa and Karnataka have reduced prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre, Uttarakhand slashed the Value Added Tax on petrol by Rs 2 per litre.
