Companies in India will soon be offered an option by the central government to have a four-day work week.
12-hour workdays per week; or five, around 10-hour days; or six, eight-hour days,
Labour Secretary Apurva Chandra told media persons on Monday that the government was considering to offer companies the flexibility to have either four 12-hour workdays or five 10-hour workdays or six 8-hour workdays.
This provision will find mention in the new labour code, but will not be mandatory on employers.
The Labour Secretary said that the 48-hour limit for working hours for a week was sacrosanct.
